Christmas Eve Checklist......

Here we are its nearly Christmas Eve, Always such a special time of the year. Is all the shopping done at this stage or are you like me a Christmas Eve Shopper... Always manic and every year I say ill be more organised next year and again it does not happen.....

Well here is a quick checklist of what you should do on Christmas Eve to make the big day a bit easier Hopefully!!!!!

• Write up a cooking plan for Christmas dinner with the timings for turkey and trimmings
• Lay and decorate your dinner table not forgetting to decorate it
• Chill your white wine and champagne
• Light cinnamon scented candles or incense to bring the smell of Christmas into your home
• Top up on fuel for your open fire if necessary and fill your car with petrol while you are at it
• Arrange a tray with bottles of drink and glasses for guests
• Replace tealights and candles
• Top up the Christmas tree with water
• Finish wrapping any last minute presents
• Prepare the guest room for visitors
• Stack and run your dishwasher
• Wrap any last-minute pressies for under the tree
• If you haven’t done it already hang a Christmas wreath on your front door
• Leave out a snack for Santa and some carrots for Rudolph

Nine days to go to the big day, how are you are with the shopping... We all get so stressed out over it all and running around like mad and I know I say it year after year Ill be more organised next year.. Ya right has not happened yet.


Well here are a few tips how to make the shopping a little less stressful....

Plan Ahead

Yep, I know I kinda already said it, but planning ahead can save a lot of stress, keep the budget down and make sure that everyone is purchased for. It may come natural for some and others might be laughing reading this right now. But there’s still time! Read the rest of this post for all the tips and you’ll bust through this shopping like no one’s business!

Set a Budget

Set a budget and stick to it... If you set a Christmas budget ahead of time so you don’t end up getting caught up in the crazy that can be Christmas. This also helps you decide what to purchase, if it doesn’t fit in the budget, you don’t buy it. Simple!

Make a list

List out everyone you need to buy for and either what you’d like to get them with a price by it or if you don’t know yet, include a price you’re planning on spending. As you purchase gifts for people you can start to mark off names and fill in the actual amount you spent which also helps you stay within the budget. Everyone gets purchased for, you’re staying in the budget and — most importantly — you’re stress free!

Stay in one Store

One stop shop is the answer! I know you might not be able to do every gift all in one store, but if you’ve planned ahead and made a list you should be able to narrow down the amount of stores you have to go to.

Good evening all...Hope everyone is good and getting into the Christmassy spirit.

Now I was just thinking, its getting cold, frosty and our little toes and feet are being couped up all the time now, so maybe it would be a nice treat for yourself to give your feet a treat...A welcome pedicure.

I for one love it... my feet benefit from it greatly, its so relaxing and gets the blood circulation moving..

So heres a few tips.
 
Soak feet in warm water, and mix the soap since it can be drying; instead, add some Vitamin E directly to the water.

Use a pumice stone to buff away dead skin, and an emery board to file the nails by swiping in one direction.

Then apply a few drops of Vitamin E to cuticles and massage until absorbed, then use an alcohol swab to wipe any remaining oils from the nail surface,  being careful not to wipe the cuticles.

Brush on a base coat

Some final bits of foot-related advice:

Vaseline will only make your skin slippery, not moisturized.

Walking barefoot on carpet can draw moisture from the feet and lead to even more dryness. Try a drop of Krazy Glue on superficial skin cracks.

And if you don’t have time for a fresh pedicure, rub in a touch of cuticle oil to your feet — it’ll add moisture and shine to your polish so it will look like you just got a nail treatment.

Now if you have nothing else to do on a Saturday night. Why not get to it and treat your little toes...

NEW FACE FOR NEWBRIDGE SILVERWEAR

Hi guys, this is Aoife writing for McMahons Shoe Emporium.

So, Newbridge Silverware has announced its new face for the brand now that Amy Huberman has completed her contract. You're about to be as surprised as we were.

The new brand representative is none other then.............. NAOMI CAMPBELL?!?

Yes, you heard that right! I couldn't believe it honestly. It seems like such an odd choice for a brand like Newbridge Silverware. 

Newbridge Silverware Jewelry is mostly recognised for being classy, elegant and almost regal but affordable for the masses. In their Newbridge Silverware  Museum of Style Icons,dresses that had been worn by icons such as Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn are the main attractions.Is Campbell really the right option for the brands new face? Of course Newbridge want to branch out and make themselves more internationally recognizable, and rightly so. They are widely celebrated by the Irish, and with pieces so beautiful, they should be worn and enjoyed world wide.

I don't know about you, but Amy Huberman was definitely a better choice previously. Amy is Irish, humorous, an accomplished author, a wife and mother, down to earth and classically beautiful despite being a modern woman. Her advertisements for Newbridge Silverware Jewelry were effortless and made you want to relate to her. 

One can only wonder if Naomi Campbell is the best person to bring it out there. The 45 year old is one of the most recognizable faces of the modeling world. One of only 6 models of her generation to be branded a 'Supermodel'.  She has represented Burberry and Italian Lingerie Brand La Perla,among others. She has written a novel, had a singing career and featured in many film and television shows. There is no doubt that she is beautiful beyond compare, but what about the not so beautiful details of her past?

One thing that comes to mind for many people when we hear the name "Naomi Campbell" is her temper. She has been involved in many scandals and some things that really make us question whether hers is the right face to be on the Newbridge billboards. Dare I mention the 2006 case where her Housekeeper Ana Scolavino needed stitches in her head after Campbell reportedly lost her temper and threw her cell phone at her? Not cool. 

Reportedly, Naomi is costing CEO of Newbridge William Doyle upwards of €200,000 to help the brand branch out internationally. I cant help but wonder if Mr Doyle could have made a better decision. So we thought up an option ourselves.


What about Saoirse Ronan?

Shes Irish/ American. She is known internationally. Her career is on the way up. She is a supporter of Irish  Industry and audibly supported the "Yes" side of the Marriage Equality Referendum during May 2015. She is also beautiful. Is she not the perfect face to represent Newbridge Silverware? 

Perhaps the reason behind Naomi Campbell's selection as the new brand Ambassador is to do with the shock factor. To get us talking about Naomi and the Brand. Hopefully it all works out for Newbridge Silverware and the company doesn't suffer at the hands of her reputation. We hope that Ms Campbell will be on her best behavior and represent such a beautiful range to the highest level, as it so rightly deserves.

How to achieve that Perfect Home Pedicure.

How to achieve that perfect home pedicure.

We here at McMahon's have a passion for only the finest footwear and fashion. Before you can step into the perfect wedge or court heel, most of us want to achieve the perfect peepers!

Here at McMahon's, we have perfected the routine for achieving flawless home pedicures for only a fraction of the price of a stop in the beauticians. Want to know how? Just follow the easy step by step guide below and be wowed at your new pedicure in moments.

• Step one: Soak em up!
• Run yourself a half basin of lukewarm - to warm water (depending on preference of course). Why not add a drop of your favorite bubble bath or some scented oil to make it extra luxurious? We also add a small handful of course salt – salt acts as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial additive, an exfoliating aid and helps drain the lactic acid in your feet after a long day. Make sure not to fill the basin too close to the top as once you add your feet you risk spilling all over your floor! In front of your favorite comfy chair, place a small towel on the ground and place your basin of water on top. (The towel stops the basin from moving). Soak your feet for 15 - 30 minutes in the water as you enjoy a cuppa and let the world pass by.
  

• Step two: Dry em!
• Remove your feet from the water once you are satisfied with your soaking time and dry well with a towel.

• Step three: Trim and file
• Now that you have soaked your feet, your nails will have softened. Now is the perfect time to remove pre-existing nail polish and to trim your nails. The best and most safe way to trim you nails is to use a nail clippers to achieve a straight line, and then file the edges to avoid any irritation or risk of ingrown nails.

• Step four: All about that base
• Now that your nails are the perfect shape, it’s time to paint! Use a basic under coat like the one we used here which was from Essence for only €1.49 and leaves a nice even layer for your colour to rest upon.

• Step Five: Colour me fabulous!
• Now, using the colour you have selected, add a layer of colour. For Autumn, the dark colours of the changing leaves are coming in, so burned oranges, deep reds and browns with a purply tone are perfectly on point and compliment every skin tone. Here at McMahon's, we love a nice even flash of colour, so we are going to show you that today with a guide of how to achieve that.
  

• Step six: Top coat
• Once you have given your colour layer time to dry and have added an optional second layer to build the colour if it is faint, you can add a layer of top coat. This locks in your colour and prevents chipping. We all know how toe polish seems to last an eternity compared to when we polish our finger nails, so why not lock that in and ensure it won’t budge.

• Step Seven: Be Dazzled
• Finally, after you have made sure your polish is completely dry, rub a small amount of oil free moisturizer (so you don’t slip when you stand up) into your feet and sit back, relax and be proud of your new DIY home pedicure skills.
